Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy
~Ludwig Von Beethoven
If you were to ask anyone who knows me 2 of my favourite things, I can assure you that one would be photography and the other would most likely be music. Music has been a part of my life for years, and is something that I can get lost in and something I use to get me through tough times. Music speaks to everyone in many different ways, but it is through the way we are touched by it or interpret it that can lead to different emotions or states of mind.
The picture I have choosen for this week speaks wonders to me. This is one of the first photos that I printed and hung on my wall (well mom and dads wall first). You need to know that on my mom’s side of the family music is one thing that connects us all together, and that flowers are another. One afternoon I was visiting my aunt in Waterloo, and we went for a walk and picked up these beautiful Gerber daisy’s. When we got back to the loft, I casually set them on her piano (which has also been a part of the family for years) to get ready for dinner. I turned and saw a picture, a picture I needed to have. So I ran down to my car and got the camera and started “klicking” away. The results to me were wonderful, I felt great about what I had done. After dinner I drove home to get them on to the computer, as I was loading them up my mom told me a friend of ours was wondering if I would do the photos for her upcoming CD, well as soon as mom saw them we sent them to her and they were a perfect fit.
I hope that you enjoy the picture this week. I have attached numerous quotes by musicians that I feel incorporate my feelings and others feelings, when it comes to how music speaks to people.
“Nothing exists without music, for the universe itself is said to have been framed by a kind of harmony of sounds, and the heaven itself revolves under the tone of that harmony.” – Isidore of Seville
“Music is the one incorporeal entrance into the higher world of knowledge which comprehends mankind but which mankind cannot comprehend.”
~Beethoven
“Music after all is the background score to our lives, not merely surviving in our memory banks long after so many of our seemingly stronger memories have faultered, but serving to remind us of who we were at a given moment of our lives, where we were, what we dreamed of, what we feared, and of course who we loved.”
A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence. ~Leopold Stokowski
Music is the universal language of mankind. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. ~Victor Hugo
“The man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved by concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils; the motions of his spirit are dull as night, and his affections dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted.” -Shakespeare, from “The Merchant of Venice”
“Music is the art… which most completely realizes the artistic idea and is the condition to which all the other arts are constantly aspiring.” – Oscar Wilde
“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” – Billy Joel
“That’s what music is: entertainment. The more you put yourself into it, the more of you comes out in it.” – Kurt Cobain
